CCSCT and TLU Nursing Co-Host Poverty Simulation

Seguin, TX – Community Council of South Central Texas, in collaboration with the TLU Department of Nursing, will host a thought-provoking poverty simulation event on May 29th, 2024 at the Seguin Coliseum located at 950 S. Austin St., Seguin, TX 78155 from 9am -1pm. The event is aimed to raise awareness about the harsh realities of poverty and foster empathy and understanding within our community.

Participants will be immersed in a simulated environment that replicates the daily struggles faced by individuals and families living in poverty. Attendees will take on different roles, each representing a unique persona affected by financial insecurity, such as a single parent, an unemployed individual, a child, or an elderly person on a fixed income. Through engaging activities and scenarios, participants will experience firsthand the difficult decisions, limited resources, and systemic challenges that impoverished individuals confront on a daily basis.

The event will conclude with a light lunch and debriefing session, where participants will share their reflections and discuss potential actions to make a difference in the lives of those affected by poverty. Attendees will leave the event with a renewed commitment to raise awareness, support local initiatives, and work towards creating lasting change.
